Use the city as a collection of moods: tiled, salty, leafy, nocturnal and always ready for one more plate.

The Gaudí circuit

Start at Sagrada Família when the morning light reaches the stained glass. Continue to Hospital de Sant Pau, then take the metro to Park Güell. Reserve timed entry for all three. In the afternoon, return to Passeig de Gràcia for Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, whose rooftop chimneys feel especially theatrical near sunset.

Mediterranean beach and promenade near Barceloneta Barcelona

Coastline · swim season

Pick your patch of blue

Barceloneta is the most central and social, with a broad promenade and easy access to seafood restaurants. Bogatell is calmer and popular with residents. Mar Bella has a more open, youthful atmosphere. Bring water, protect your belongings, and remember that the sea is a city neighbor rather than a wilderness beach.

Fresh produce and colorful fruit stalls at La Boqueria market

Food · market to table

Eat in the city's rhythm

Visit La Boqueria early for fruit, jamón and a visual jolt, but wander beyond La Rambla for dinner. Try pa amb tomàquet, escalivada, bombas, suquet de peix and crema catalana. A good tapas crawl is not a checklist: order two or three plates, share, pause, and let the next room tempt you.
